A Simple Guide On How Kratom Is Harvested

You may be new to Kratom or you may be a seasoned veteran who’s tried every strain known to man, however, are you aware of how this magical leaf is harvested? Probably not I would assume, but hey, every day is a school day and today I am your teacher!

In today’s class of Kratom 101, the topic is harvesting Kratom. This guide will detail everything from where the Kratom leaf originates all the way to how it’s converted into the consumable product we know and love.

I will go into depth regarding the whole process so you can gain a more profound view of Kratom in general. It’s basically my way of paying homage to this almighty leaf that provides us with its natural wonders.

With this said, let’s get to it and dig deep into the origins of Kratom! You may want a notepad, if not, well...suit yourself but you’ll want to remember this intricate process for as long as you live!

The Origin Of Kratom Trees

Now as you may or may not know, Kratom derives from the infamous Mitragyna Speciosa which is a tree that grows in the region of Southeast Asia. These trees aren’t your regular apple tree that your 80-year old neighbor Murial takes care of every year, no no no!

The Mitragyna Speciosa is the beast of many trees, a Zeus of all trees if you will as they can grow up to a staggering 80 feet in height. They get their powers by growing all year round as they reside in tropical rainforests.

Is it as easy as cutting a Mitragyna Speciosa tree and grinding it down to experience its powers? In short, no. This is where the process gets a little bit tricky and interesting.

These magical trees have to be grown in very specific conditions in order to produce a finely made crop. Even the slightest manipulation in temperature, light, and soil can determine how well a Kratom crop will be harvested in terms of its quality. For this reason, every crop has to be monitored, analyzed, and regulated at regular intervals as it could result in a costly and wasted outcome.

On the flip side, seasoned farmers are capable of getting the very best out of their crop which will result in a Kratom leaf harvest that contains personalized alkaline content in the trees.

This means that a Kratom farm in a specific location, given it’s been harvested effectively, can in fact grow an array of different regional varieties from a completely different location to a successful standard! Science my friends, science indeed.

However, it is a lengthy process to get the best out of your crop. I say this because although you may garner significant alkaline content after one year of growth, the tree could still be very well in its infancy as a Mitragyna Speciosa can take up to three years before it’s ready to be harvested. Slow and steady wins the race I guess? Unless you’re Usain Bolt.

Timing Is Everything

As the saying goes, “Patience is a virtue” and this couldn’t be any more relevant to how Kratom is harvested. Along with timing, harvesting Kratom requires a degree of experience and crucial analysis. This helps determine the essential timing of a particular harvest and helps decide when certain stages have been achieved.

The cycle of a Kratom tree can experience an array of significant changes throughout its life course. Even when the tree looks as though it’s reached the final stages of its growth, there are still vital changes it must endure before becoming the complete package.

Such stages can be noted as the color of stems and veins given from the leaves that are growing from the tree. This is vitally important as it can determine what strain of Kratom is being harvested.

Now, as the Kratom leaf develops and changes, so does the alkaloid balance at the chemical level. Over time, the balance of mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine starts to shift as Mitragynine levels begin to decelerate and 7-hydroxymitragynine begins to accelerate.

This process is what’s responsible for the chameleon-like change in the stems and veins of Kratom leaves. Additionally, when the leaves are in their infancy the veins usually emit a white color until they slowly start to evolve into a green and then in its final stages will convert to a vibrant yet prosperous red color.

Those who farm Kratom will keep a very watchful eye on this process as they must pay vital attention to specific harvest times so they can choose when to harvest a particular strain.

This is why timing is of the essence and is one of, if not ‘the’ key element when producing Kratom as white, green, and red Kratom will arrive at different stages in the tree's life cycle. It’s pretty much like babysitting, except it’s a huge tree. You’re basically a tree-sitter if you harvest Kratom is what I’m trying to say.

Finally, once the Kratom leaves have reached their pinnacle and final phase of the cycle, the farmers intricately trim the leaves whilst leaving the branches of the trees untouched. This is so the tree can be prepped for a brand new cycle and repeat the above process all over again.

The Process Continues…

So what happens now the cycle has been completed? Is the process over? Can I now consume copious amounts of Kratom? Well, to be honest, I don’t recommend the last question but to be blunt, no. There’s still more to this magical voyage than you may think!

The next stage of the process is slightly more delicate than the previous as the next stage requires the raw Kratom leaves to be washed and dried. This is to ensure that the most healthy and well-harvested leaves are at some point made into Kratom powder. Once the best of the crop has been selected, the farmers will then leave the washed and dried leaves to hang for all the world to see in all its glory.

It’s key to point out that there are many factors that contribute to a successful drying stage. All of which affects the alkaloid content of the leaf which ultimately provides the leaf with its potency and pureness.

Said factors can include its location and ambient humidity which both must be on point or else it will drastically tamper with the outcome of its results.

Once you reach this stage, the dried and cured Kratom leaves are now officially ready to be transformed into high-quality powder! We’ve come a long way young patron, if you’d like to take a minute to wipe those tears of joy please do so now.

The farmers traditionally used to hand-grind the leaves with mortar and pestle, however, times change and so does Kratom grinding equipment. After all, we’re not cavemen anymore, are we?

Anyway, the majority of farmers in this day and age fast track the process by utilizing industrial grinders so they can grind a higher quantity of Kratom under quicker time frames. This is so they can keep up with the ever-growing demand that Kratom seems to have!

After this stage, the ground Kratom leaves will finally be sent to a reliable and certified vendor so that the potency and pureness of the product can be tested effectively before it's sent on the market. By doing this it ensures that there are no harmful chemicals or metals left on the product before it reaches its jubilant customers.

A Final Word

As you can see, there are numerous different processes that Kratom goes through in order to be given an official potent and pure status. It’s not like picking fruit from a tree, is it?

From the point the tree starts to grow all the way to the lab where it’s sent for testing, the level of attention and care that this product is given is second to none which is why it is such a greatly loved product amongst Kratom fans worldwide.

With that said, I hope you enjoyed this article and it helped give you more of an insight into how the Kratom you consume is manufactured which in turn only makes you love it more!
